Sweet potato casserole from the southern region

Thanksgiving Sweet Potato Casserole

I've always enjoyed Thanksgiving because it's a holiday centered around my favorite foods, gratitude, and family. Spices, vegetables, and lots of butter – what else could I ask for? I believe the best part of Thanksgiving dinner is the mix of flavors, but I really love sweet potato casserole. It's a side dish that you don't often see during the rest of the year, but on Thanksgiving Day, it's essential. And this is the recipe I always use for it.

Ingredients

Casserole

  • 4 cups of mashed sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup of half and half
  • 1/3 cup of softened butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt

Topping

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup of flour
  • 1 1/3 cups of chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup of melted butter

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, brown sugar, half and half, softened butter, egg, vanilla, and salt. Mix until completely smooth.
  3. Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, flour, chopped pecans, and melted butter until it becomes crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the sweet potatoes.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes.
  7. Allow the casserole to cool for at least 20 minutes before serving.

This sweet potato casserole is a delightful addition to any Thanksgiving meal. The rich, creamy sweet potatoes combined with the crunchy pecan topping make it a standout dish that everyone will love. Enjoy!
