Half-moon shapes on the nails reveal our state of health.
Have you ever wondered why a small white crescent moon appears at the base of each fingernail? These crescents, called “lunulas,” are no coincidence. Invisible to some, very visible to others, they can be subtle indicators of your overall health. And if the size, shape, or color changes, it can mean much more than a simple aesthetic problem…
Different lunulas on each finger: a specific message for each organ
Think of your hand as a mini-map of health. Each finger seems to be connected to a specific organ:
Little finger: Few or no lunulas? That’s normal. But a well-defined lunula can indicate high blood pressure or kidney problems.
Ring finger: A subtle lunula can indicate a slow digestive system or hormonal imbalance.
Middle finger: This finger is connected to the heart and brain. The absence of the lunula can be a sign of circulatory problems. Index finger: A retracted lunula may indicate intestinal problems or a fragile middle ear. Thumb: This is the longest finger. It reflects the condition of the lungs and spleen. Its size should not exceed a quarter of the nail.
It’s as if your fingers are whispering in your doctor’s ear…
Large lunulas: a warning or a lifestyle change?

When the lunulas take up space (more than a third of the nail), this can be positive or negative:
In athletes, they tend to be larger, indicating an active metabolism.
But in sedentary people, it can indicate unstable blood pressure or heart rhythm disorders.
It’s as if your nails are showing whether they can withstand pressure well… or not.
