‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Melrose Place’ actor dies at 57

Patrick Muldoon, known for his roles in Days of Our LivesMelrose Place, and Starship Troopers, has died at the age of 57 after suffering a heart attack.

According to TMZ, Patrick Muldoon passed away after an incident at his Beverly Hills home. His sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, said he had been drinking coffee with his girlfriend on Sunday morning before going to take a shower.

His girlfriend later became concerned when he was gone for an unusually long time and went to check on him, finding him unconscious on the bathroom floor. Paramedics were called immediately, but despite efforts to revive him, he could not be saved.

Muldoon’s career began early, landing a role in the sitcom Who’s the Boss? while still in college. He later appeared in Saved by the Bell as Jeffrey Hunter before gaining wider recognition in daytime television.

He became a familiar face on Days of Our Lives, playing the good guy Austin Reed from 1992 to 1995 and returning again from 2011 to 2012.

“It was like going to high school,” he said when reflecting on returning to Days of Our Lives. “It’s strange, but really you kinda want to pinch yourself. The same people are there, the people I really enjoyed in the ’90s I still enjoy working with today.”

He also played the villain Richard Hart on Melrose Place between 1995 and 1996.

On the big screen, he is perhaps best known for his role as Zander Barcalow in the 1997 cult sci-fi film Starship Troopers.

“I’ve always been a comic book fan,” he said in 2012. “I’ve always loved that [science fiction] stuff even as a kid. To be able to play these types of roles as an adult is a real treat for me”.
